THE CHARLES NÈGRE MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Located in the heart of Old Nice in a former industrial building, the museum offers temporary monographic or group exhibitions of the biggest names in photography as well as themes presenting all the trends in photography.
After 16 years in the walls of the Artistique on Boulevard Dubouchage, the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image moved to Place Pierre Gautier, in a former electrical substation and became the Charles Nègre Museum of Photography in 2016.
The Museum has an adjoining gallery dedicated to regional photographic creation.
The museum occupies the premises of the former Prefecture substation, which was commissioned in the 1930s to supply electricity to the district, and which made it possible to transform high-voltage alternating current into low-voltage direct current. From this period the industrial character of the architecture and an old overhead crane remain.
Since 2018, the museum has been awarded the Qualité Tourisme label, the only state mark awarded to tourism professionals for the quality of their welcome and services.
